The life of a gold fish is seldom a lonely one. Copenhagen had many friends swimming in the Sea with him. He loved it. When the Bigs gave them tasty flakes, when the Sea got low, and they needed to be in the Small Sea for a bit. It was fun!
Copenhagen could not quite remember the first Sea he lived in. There were many other fish, of that he was sure. And then he was caught by a Big, and then their was a moving Small Sea that got uncomfortably warm…
Thinking made Copenhagen’s head hurt. He had to swim up to the Surface to make mouth bubbles to calm him down. Then Other came to join him. Oh how Copenhagen loved Other. Her short tail, her orange scales, her constant companionship. She was wonderful.
He swam around, always glancing over at Other while she followed him. It made him happy. He wouldn’t rather do anything else in the whole Sea.
The girl looked down in the fish bowl. She wondered why the one fish, Copenhagen, never interacted with the other fish. The only thing he ever did was swim near the glass all day long, looking at his reflection.
